2010-11 - Strategic Wagers on UK Football
Published April 6, 2011
As with any form of betting, when looking to place a wager on the outcome of the Champions League or the Premiership, people will be looking for strategies. For the 2010-11 season, some pundits will argue that both contests are effectively over but much can happen between now and when the eventual winners are crowned that could prove those arguments wrong.
After Manchester United beat West Ham United to go seven points clear at the top of the EPL with seven games to go, it would have been tempting to admit that Sir Alex Ferguson and his men have already secured yet another Premiership title. Certainly all the bookmakers see it that way but Arsene Wenger and his Arsenal side certainly won`t have given up.
When considering a strategy in this case, it`s obvious to look at the games that these sides have left to play and who has the easier run in to the end of the season. However, it`s also important to consider that Manchester United have other distractions too and they are still in the semi finals of the FA Cup and have the small matter of a Champions League quarter final tie with Chelsea to come through.
Seven points will be hard for Arsenal to claw back but United won`t be helped by their more crowded fixture calendar and football history will show many previous instances where sides have overcome such a deficit and snatched the title. The beauty of the internet means that it is so much easier now to research this kind of information and to base a strategy around it. In short, taking an outside punt on Arsenal to win the EPL and maybe taking advantage of a no risk free bet in this instance could be a wise move.
Turning to the Champions League, although we have only reached the quarter final stages in 2010-11, most bookmakers have Barcelona as red hot favourites for the trophy. Once again however, you only have to look back to recent years and see how previous teams in Barca`s position have faltered to let more unfancied teams in to win.
Once again a bit of research can help your strategy but sometimes a simple hunch can help. Many people just have a feeling that Jose Mourinho`s Real Madrid are peaking at the right time and they could well go on to win the trophy.
Moving forward to next season, how should you plan and research your bets for the winners of these two trophies next time around?
As with everything it`s important to keep researching: Look at current form and injuries and see which teams have traditionally struggled when they play a certain opponent. Naturally certain teams will be favourites and when the points are wiped clean and everybody starts from scratch, Manchester United will be the team to beat in next season`s Premier League.
As always, another good idea is to follow the top pundits and once again there are statistics to show which of the tipsters get it right most often. With a little research and some attention to football tips it is possible to plan a successful betting strategy and make some good money on Champions League and EPL betting.
