2019/20 Champions League Leading Contenders

The pinnacle of European football is the Champions League and the tournament provided stunning entertainment last season. This included numerous record breaking comebacks, including in both semi-finals as both Liverpool and Tottenham progressed through to the finals. Liverpool turned around a 3-0 first leg deficit and it was a similar story for Tottenham away at Ajax. This all sets up for another incredible tournament this year. Here we cover the four leading sides according to the betting at present.

Manchester City

The current two time defending Premier league champions will again start the tournament as the favourites. They are also already proving a popular choice for punters who have been supporting them using the latest sign up offer codes that are available. This is little surprise considering the success domestically in recent years, as the squad continues to progress under Pep Guardiola. They came agonisingly close to reaching the semi-finals last season before being knocked out by Tottenham in very controversial circumstances. City will again be expected to be challenging to the latter stages of the competition.

Barcelona

Following the first leg victory last season against Liverpool in the semi-finals they were very short priced favourites to go on and land the title. However, Liverpool produced a memorable display as Barcelona again squandered a big lead in the competition. They have been busy in the transfer market, bringing in star French forward Antoine Griezmann. This now has to make them one of the clear teams to beat this season as they go in search of a sixth Champions league title and first since 2015.

Liverpool

The defending champions must start amongst the favourites as they continue to progress in recent years. This saw them beaten on the final day of the season to the domestic title by Manchester City. However, they were able to pick up the Champions league trophy following the victory over Tottenham in the final. This was also the second consecutive Champions league final for Liverpool, as they remain a dominating European force at present.

Juventus

The final side who must sit amongst the favourites are Italian champions Juventus. They are going in search of a record breaking 36th domestic top flight title as they continue their domination over the Italian game. However, it is the Champions league trophy they really want as you have to go back to 1996 to their last major European trophy. Cristiano Ronaldo will again be leading the line and they will be hopeful of success this season. They have also brought in the hugely exciting young talent in defender Matthijs de Ligt, so can he be the difference in ending this European drought?
