1951 (MLB): The Giants win the pennant! In Game 3 of the National League playoff series, Bobby Thompson's one-out 3-run homer in the bottom of the 9th gives the New York Giants a 5-4 victory over the Brooklyn Dodgers. The 'shot heard around the world' is one of the most famous home runs in MLB history. The Giants were -130 home favorites and entered the season at +250 to win the NL pennant. They would go on to lose the World Series in 6 games to the New York Yankees.
1998 (Boxing): Less than 2 years into his professional career, 21 year-old Floyd Mayweather Jr. wins his first world title after defeating Genaro Hernandez in the 8th round by TKO when Hernandez's cornerman stops the fight. Mayweather was a +120 underdog for the super featherweight (130 pound) fight as he improved to 18-0.
1998 (College Football): Running back Ricky Williams rushes for a school record 350 yards and 5 touchdowns as Texas defeats Iowa State 54-33. The Longhorns covered as 14-point home favorites as Williams set NCAA records with 65 career rushing touchdowns and 394 career points by a non-kicker. Williams would go on to win the Heisman Trophy Award and be drafted 5th overall by the New Orleans Saints.
