1980 (Boxing): As a -160 favorite, Sugar Ray Leonard suffers his first loss as a professional to Roberto Durán in a 15-round unanimous decision.
1982 (Golf): Tom Watson wins his first and only U.S. Open at Pebble Beach with a 2-stroke victory over Jack Nicklaus. The two rivals were tied until Watson famously chipped in from the rough on the par 3 17th hole. Watson was +700 to win the tournament while Craig Stadler, who finished tied for 22nd, entered as the +300 favorite.
1993 (NBA): John Paxson hits the go-ahead 3-pointer with 3.9 remaining in the game to give the Chicago Bulls a 99-98 Game 6 victory over the Phoenix Suns as the Bulls win their 3rd consecutive NBA Championship. Chicago was a 2-point road underdog and entered Game 1 as -240 favorites to win the series. Michael Jordan, who would announce his first retirement just before the start of the next season, took home the Finals MVP award after averaging 41.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game during the series.
