1977 (NBA): The Portland Trail Blazers defeat the Philadelphia 76ers 109-107 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals to win their first NBA Championship. Portland failed to cover as 5½-point home favorites as Finals MVP Bill Walton had 20 points, 23 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 blocks. The Blazers entered Game 1 as +140 series underdogs.

1999 (Tennis): As a +190 underdog for the match, Steffi Graf wins her 22nd and final Grand Slam singles title at the French Open after defeating Martina Hingis 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Graf entered the tournament at +1200 to win the title.

2004 (Horse Racing): Smarty Jones was "valiant, but vanquished" as he comes up one length short of being the first horse to win the Triple Crown in 26 years after 36-1 longshot Birdstone comes from behind to win the 136th Belmont Stakes. This was third year in a row that a horse had won both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness but failed to win the Belmont.

2005 (Tennis): Two days after his 19th birthday, Spaniard Rafael Nadal wins his first Grand Slam singles title at the French Open after defeating Mariano Puerta 6-7, 6-3, 6-1, 7-5. Despite it being his first appearance at Roland Garros, Nadal entered the tournament as the +200 betting favorite to win the title and was a heavy -714 favorite for the final.
