1983 (MLB): The 'Pine Tar Game' - With the Kansas City Royals down 4-3, George Brett's go-ahead 2-run homer with 2 outs in the top half of the 9th inning is nullified after New York Yankees manager Billy Martin requests that the umpires inspect Brett's bat for pine tar. The Royals, who were +140 road underdogs for the game, would protest the game and AL president Lee MacPhail ruled that the game be continued from the point of Brett's home run. The game resumed on August 18 as the Royals were now -280 favorites. Reliever Dan Quisenberry pitched a perfect 9th giving Kansas City a 5-4 victory.


1993 (MLB): New York Mets right-hander Anthony Young extends his record losing streak to 27 games after walking in the winnning run with 2 outs in the 10th inning of the Mets 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers were -130 home favorites.


2011 (Cycling): Entering the race at 20-1 to win the Tour de France, Cadel Evans becomes the first Australian to win the race. 2-time champion Alberto Contador, who entered as the -167 odds-on-favorite, finished in 5th place and was later disqaulified for doping.
