1998 (NHL): The Detroit Red Wings complete a series sweep in the Stanley Cup Finals for the 2nd year in a row after defeating the Washington Capitals 4-1. Detroit entered Game 1 as -330 favorites to win the series and were +500 to win the title before the season started. Steve Yzerman took home the Conn Smythe Trophy after scoring 6 goals and collecting 18 assists during the playoffs.
2008 (Golf): Tiger Woods wins his 3rd U.S. Open and 14th major title after beating Rocco Mediate on the 1st hole of a sudden-death playoff which followed a Monday 18-hole playoff. Woods, who was an overwhelming +200 favorite entering the tournament, played the tournament with a double stress fracture of his left tibia and would have surgery two days later. He would miss the remainder of the 2008 season due to the injury and not win another major until the 2019 Masters. This was the last 18-hole playoff in U.S. Open history as a 2-hole aggregrate playoff format began with the 2018 tournament.
2015 (NBA): The Golden State Warriors win their first NBA Championship in 40 years after beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 105-97 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. The Warriors entered Game 1 as -220 favorites to win the series as the two squads would face off in each of the next three Finals. Golden State entered the season at 28-1 to win the title - the highest preseason odds of the eventual champion going back to the 1984-85 season (as far back as we have preseason title odds). Andre Iguodala earned Finals MVP honors after averaging 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game during the series.
