1979 (NHL): The Montreal Canadiens win their 4th consecutive Stanley Cup after defeating the New York Rangers 4-1 in Game 5 of their best-of-7 series. Entering Game 1, the Canadiens were -220 favorites to win the series as Bob Gainey won the Conn Smythe award.


1986 (NBA): With one second remaining and the game tied at 112-112, Houston Rockets' center Ralph Sampson hits a turnaround jumper to eliminate the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. The Rockets were 8-point road underdogs for the game as the Lakers missed The Finals for the only time between 1982 and 1989. Houston would go on to lose in 6 games to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.


2011 (Horse Racing): Sent off at 12.6-1, Shackleford edges out Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom by a half length to win the 136th Preakness Stakes.
