The Bears covered as 2½-point home favorites. The 23-year old Payton would go on to lead the league in rushing with 1,852 yards in the last NFL season with only 14 regular season games. Cal covered the spread as a 7½-point home underdog. Stanford had taken the lead with 4 seconds left after kicker Mark Harmon's 35-yard field goal. Senior Cardinal quarterback John Elway threw for 330 yards and 2 touchdowns in his final college game.

1993 (College Football): #17 Boston College ends #1 Notre Dame's perfect season with a 41-39 victory. The Eagles were 14½-point road underdogs and the game went over the total of 54 points. The Fighting Irish erased a 21-point deficit but Eagles kicker David Gordon's 41-yard field goal with 5 seconds left gave BC the win.
