1984 (MLB): As -140 favorites, the Detroit Tigers earn their 17th straight road victory after defeating the California Angles 5-1 behind a 4-hit complete game by Jack Morris. The win equals the MLB record for longest road winning streak set by the 1916 New York Giants and also gives the Tigers the best start through 40 games (35-5) in MLB history. The road winning streak would come to an end the next night when Detroit lost at Seattle 7-3 as -160 favorites.

1990 (NHL): Nearly two years after trading away Wayne Gretzky to the LA Kings, the Edmonton Oilers capture their 5th Stanley Cup in 7 years when they defeat the Boston Burins 4-1 in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Oilers entered Game 1 as +180 series underdogs and entered the regular season at +1200 to win the title. Goalie Bill Ranford wins the Conn Smythe.
1992 (Motor Racing): Entering the race at 15-1, Al Unser Jr wins the 76th Indianapolis 500 by 0.043 seconds over Scott Goodyear - the closest finish in Indy history. Unser Jr became first 2nd-generation driver to win the Indy 500.
