1977 (Golf): Tom Watson shoots a 5-under 65 to win the 2nd of his 5 Open Championship titles by a stroke over Jack Nicklaus. Watson entered the tournament at +800 to win the title as Nicklaus was the favorite at +600. The pair played together the final 2 rounds and was remembered as the 'Duel in the Sun.' Nicklaus finished 9 strokes ahead of 3rd place finisher Hubert Green.


2000 (Tennis): American Pete Sampras wins his 4th straight Wimbledon singles title and 13th Grand Slam title to move past Roy Emerson on the all-time Men's list after defeating Australian Patrick Rafter 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, 6-2. Sampras was a -300 favorite for the match and entered the tournament as the favorite at +120 to win the title.


2002 (MLB): The 73rd MLB All-Star Game ends in a 7-7 tie after 11 innings when both the American League and National League teams run out of available pitchers. The NL was a -130 favorite and the over/under was 9 runs. The following year (and until 2016), home field advantage in the World Series would be awarded to the winning league.
