1985 (Boxing): Larry Holmes improved to 47-0 after defeating David Bey by TKO in the 10th round at the Riviera in Las Vegas. Holmes was -350 for the fight and retained the IBF Heavyweight Title.


1984 (College Basketball): As a 9-point underdog, #12 seed Richmond upset #5 seed Auburn 72-71 in the first round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Auburn forward Charles Barkley, playing in what turned out to be his final college game, had 23 ponits and 17 rebounds. Spiders guard Johnny Newman led all scorers with 26 points.


1998 (College Basketball): In the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament - #8 seed Rhode Island defeats #1 seed Kansas 80-75. The Rams were a 12½-point underdog as they were led by Cuttino Mobley, who had a game-high 27 points. Rhode Island would go on to reach the Elite Eight where they lost 79-77 to #3 seed Stanford. For Kansas, it was the 4th year in a row where they were the #1 or #2 seed and failed to reach the Final Four.


2001 (College Basketball): Hampton becomes the fourth #15 seed to advance in the NCAA Tournament after beating #2 seed Iowa State 58-57. Hampton was a 17½-point underdog as forward Tarvis Williams hit the game-winning basket with 6.9 seconds left. Williams led all scorers with 16 points and had 13 rebounds and 6 blocks. Hampton lost 76-57 in the next round to #10 seed Georgetown.
