1988 (NHL): In the biggest trade in hockey history, the Edmonton Oilers trade 27 year-old superstar Wayne Gretzky plus teammates Marty McSorely and Mike Krushelnski to the Los Angeles Kings for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, three 1st round draft picks and $15 in cash. The Kings went from 100-1 to 30-1 to win the Stanley Cup while the Oilers moved from 2-1 to 4-1. Later that season, Los Angeles - who was a -170 series favorite - would go on to defeat Edmonton in 7 games in the first round of the playoffs. Gretzky, who won 4 Stanley Cups with the Oilers, would only reach the Stanley Cup Finals one more time in his career when the Kings lost to the Montreal Canadiens in 1993.


1998 (MLB): 44 year-old Dennis Martinez earns his 244th career victory to surpass Juan Marichal for the winningest Latin American pitcher in MLB history as the Atlanta Braves defeat the San Francisco Giants 7-5. The Braves were -150 road favorites as Martinez would retire at the end of the season and finish his career with 245 victories.


2012 (Track & Field): At the London Olympics - Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt wins the 200m in 19.32 to become the 1st ever to win the 100/200m double in back-to-back Olympics. Bolt was a -139 favorite to win the 100m and -182 favorite to win the 200m.
